Those who love a lot of e-mail often tend to be people who wear their busyness like a badge, even though they can stay busy for days without getting much real work done.
Email can be a productivity killer, so it's interesting to read a perspective about what drives people to spend so much time on emails - sending, reading, writing and organizing them.
When you think about it, emails can be a full time job.
- Checking emails
- Responding to emails
- Doing the tasks related to the email
- Sorting emails
- Filing emails
- Organizing email systems
- Deleting emails

- Writing emails
- Sending emails
and the beat goes on...
- What are your pet email peeves?
- Could you give up email for one day per week?

Yvonne, what a good point. I had a good friend who wore her busyness as a badge (love this phrase!) and I always sensed that she feared not being in motion. Sometimes people are hiding from themselves, or their insecurities with busyness. I could totally go without email for a day! I actually find that I have cut way down on creating email. Sometimes a phone call is quicker and avoids multiple emails. I read of an office that had no-email Fridays and productivity skyrocketed. I bet many of us could benefit from that tip.
