I found the results interesting and informative. Most of us in small business could learn from these findings, regardless of our field.
The research
reveals a client base that is more ready than ever to vote with its feet, but eager to build close relationships if the service is right.
Small Business Deal Breakers
- incorrect advice
- lack of personal touch
- high fees
Of these criteria, lack of personal touch was the most definitive deal breaker with 65.8% of the vote.
Small Business Deal MakersSmall business owners engaged the accountants due to
- personal recommendation
- reputation
Interestingly, about one third of respondents would have paid for additional services saying they would "welcome
their accountant filling a role similar to a business partner."
This appears to be a missed opportunity for both parties.
The survey also showed that a majority of respondents are happy to communicate with their accountants online.
- How can you find out what other services or products your clients would be prepared to pay for?
- What makes you stick with a business? What are deal makers and deal breakers for you?
