Post Christmas Sales - Bargain Hunter's Para
dise or Spending Trap?
Viewer Poll Question
This was the viewer question put to Australia's Channel 10 television viewers post Christmas. 79% of respondents to the poll answered "spending trap". 21% saw post Christmas sales as a great opportunity to stock up or treat themselves.
Bumper Post Christmas Sales
Obviously, the sample didn't reflect the huge numbers lining up at the traditional post Christmas sales. A spokesman for upmarket department store, David Jones said they expected to sell 225,000 handbags alone in the days after Christmas.
Some shoppers say they wait all year for these sales, just to have a spending splurge.
Popular Bargains
Shoes and big ticket electrical items such as Plasma televisions were also high on the list of popular items for post Christmas bargain hunters.
Next Christmas
Some people stocked up on Christmas decorations and trees at 50% off, ready for next Christmas.
Boxing Day Sales - Australia
Crowds started lining up 3 hours before opening time on December 26th outside some major upmarket department stores for the traditional Boxing Day sales.
December 26th, Boxing Day in Australia, is the biggest trading day of they year, something akin to the frenzy of Black Friday in the US.
