How would you like a $50 000 tip? Not bad, right?
The ABC reports that a cafeteria waitress in Bronsville, Texas was rewarded for years of serving a sometimes picky customer. Melina Salazar said 89 year old Walter Swords was a regular. She wondered why he hadn't been showing up lately.
Then Salazar noticed the man's July obituary in a newspaper. Days before Christmas, Salazar learned that Swords had left her $50,000 and a 2000 car.
Salazar says her advice to anyone in her line of work is - smile and be nice.
The Houston Chronicle also carried the story -
She made sure his food was as hot as he wanted, even if it meant he burned his mouth. And she smiled through his demands and curses. And 89-year-old Walter "Buck" Swords obviously appreciated it.
Needless to say, Salazar was somewhat suprised by this generous acknowledgement of her customer service.
Never Too Late To Say Thank You
I guess it's never too late to say thank you and let someone know you appreciated what they did for you, whether in customer service or in your small business.

Walter M. Swords went Home to be with the Lord on July 15, 2007 at the age of three days shy of 90. On his will, he gave $50,000 tip and a 2000 Buick to the Mexican-American woman Melina Salazar. The generosity is incredible and very unusual! He has no immediate family and he was a World War II veteran. Swords has a heart of gold! He was a very mean man and he was a lifelong bachelor. Melina Salazar was in disbelief due to the money she receives. Vaya con Dios, Melina! Swords gave her like a gentleman a lot of money. God bless him and his friends.
