The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) initiative is great for small businesses who want to give something back this Christmas.
Give One Get One Christmas Offer
For a donation of $399, one XO laptop will be sent to empower a child in a developing nation and one will be sent to the child in your life in recognition of your contribution. $200 of your donation is tax-deductible
You need to order before November 26, 2007.
CEO Nicholas Negroponte explains the vision behind the OLPC project.
What Is The One Laptop Per Child Project?
This non profit initiative provides laptops for children in third world countries. These are children who live in very poor conditions. Why laptops then?
Why not food? Why not money?
How Did It Start?
In a documentary he explained that education is the pathway out of poverty and a longer term solution. The One Laptop Per Child program started when he visited a small Cambodian village and provided laptops himself.
Benefits Of OLPC
In homes without electricity, the wireless laptop provided "illumination" in every sense of the word. The family gathered around the computer and explored, discovered and learned.
Google Is Everywhere
It's no surprise then that the first English word for most of these children was "Google". So Negroponte asked Google for sponsorship and funding. Google agreed.
About The OLPC Laptop
The laptops themselves look like toys. This was deliberate. They are pretty amazing machines. They have a wireless range of up to 3 times our expensive laptops.
They can be viewed in the sun, are waterproof and are pretty much childproof. Best of all they can be made and supplied cheaply.
The Second Laptop
You could use the second laptop as a prize in a special Christmas promotion. It would also be a great PR opportunity, as it's such a great story to be part of.
If you can't join in, you can do your part by spreading the word.

Thanks for spreading the word on this worthwhile project, Yvonne.
