Today I received a newsletter from one of my favorite companies. ![]()
The problem was the newsletter was sent as an attachment.
I opened the attachment, albeit somewhat unwillingly. This email was followed by an apology about an hour later.
The Wrong Newsletter Sent
The error was blamed on a new assistant who had sent out the 2006 November newsletter to the subscriber list, instead of the current newsletter.
Okay, anyone can make a mistake. I'm not too sure the error was handled all that well, but my main issue was with receiving the email as an attachment (both times).
As people are becoming increasingly reluctant to open attachments, my suggestions for sending newsletters are -
- Don't send newsletters as attachments
- Have the newsletter available to download as a PDF
- Have the newsletters (current and past) archived on your site
- Offer a podcast instead of a newsletter or a podcast and a transcript
- Include the newsletter in the body of the email for immediate access
