20 Reasons Emails Are Effective For Business Communication

Emails are quick and easy, but are they always the best wabutton%20email.pngy to communicate?

Gadgetopia puts forward 8 reasons why email is a better form of business communication than a phone call, and explains why.

  1. Email is quicker.

  2. Email addresses are easier to remember.

  3. The phone can be inconvenient.

  4. A lot of interactions are, by nature, segmented.

  5. Email keeps track of itself.

  6. Email is as fast as I can read.

  7. You can skip niceties with email.

  8. People will say things in email that they won’t say on the phone.

I believe there are times when emails are not the best way to communicate, but I agree with Gadgetopia that there are times that email can be the best choice.

When to use emails over other business communications, is a judgement call. The best choice does not always equate with the preferred choice in terms of convenience for a particular person.

It depends largely on the issue, the time frame and the purpose of the communication.

More Reasons You May Choose Emails Over Other Business Communications
9. You can read emails when it suits you

10. You can access emails on the road at your convenience

11. You can prioritize urgent incoming emails

12. You can batch emails for better time management

13. You can keep others in the loop at the same time using cc

14. You can send brief emails and brief responses

15. You can send a follow up email or series of emails

16. You can forward the same information on to someone else

17. You can reply to everyone on the distribution list

18. You can indicate if an email is urgent or not when sending

19. You have a written record of instructions or information

20. You can store emails on a topic together in a folder for easy access and reference

Over To You
Can you think of other times when email may be better than a phone call?

In a future article, I'll also look at times when other types of business communication may be preferable to emails. I welcome your suggestions.
