Happy Blog Action Day! Al Gore, Kermit & Being Green

Happy Blog Action Day 2007! It wasn't so long ago that being green was regarded as a fringe fad.

"Greenies" were disparaged as being latter day hippies, out of touch with the modern world and progress.  As Kermit said "It's not easy being greeen."

Taking Green Seriously At Last
blog_action_day.JPG Fast forward twenty years, and here we are finally taking being green seriously. Of course, we needed evidence to convince us, and fair enough too.

Scientific reports, news of changing weather patterns, melting ice caps and rainforests felled were one thing.

An Inconvenient Truth
But when we saw movie screen size visuals in Al Gore's  documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, it finally made us stop and take notice. Maybe, because it all seemed suddenly more real and urgent.

Al Gore Wins Nobel Peace Prize
Despite detractors calling Gore's film a "shockumentary", the environment issue has been given a status of such global importance that Al Gore and a team of scientists were awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

Al Gore was lauded as the person who has done the most to get the environment onto the political agenda, and making it an issue that people are talking about and demanding action on.

Green Business
What about you? What are you doing in your small business to help the environment? Is your business green enough? Green business makes sound business sense.

Kermit would have been proud. Maybe being green is easier than we thought.
Every little bit helps. Blog Action Day 2007 is a great time to get started.

You bet Kermit would be proud!!! :) I think this is a great opportunity to get the word out there. Al Gore has done his part and now it's up to us to push our government to take environmental change seriously. The Energy Bill on the table with Congress has the possibility to have a huge impact. I'm working with a coalition to ensure that the standards set up by Congress and the Senate make it through to the final bill. As of now the bill calls for a 15% renewable electricity standard by 2020 and 35 mpg fuel economy standard by the same year. Think of all the positive changes that would bring about! We'd really have Kermit smiling. Check out the petition (and maybe sign it) at www.energybill2007.org.

I agree that Al Gore has certainly put the issue well and truly on the agenda. The timing for Blog Action Day coming soon after Gore's Nobel Peace Prize has been perfect.

Thanks for the great work you are doing with the Energy Bill! I can see Kermit smiling already. :)

Thanks Yvonne! I hope that it passes with flying colors. It would really mean a big change for the better!
