Employers no longer hold all the cards in the recruiting game,
especially in highly skilled jobs, where the law of supply and demand is in play.
Lifestyle Choices - It's Not Just About Money
It's not just Generation X and Generation Y, who are seeking lifestyle choices. Baby booomers are also looking for flexible choices.
The workplace and recruiting landscape are changing. Good candidates are sought after, but negotiating isn't always only about monetary issues.
Time Is A Negotiable Commodity
In a time poor world, people are not only trading off, but often trading up. They are looking for choices as well as the freedom those choices give them. They want a rewarding well paid job, but with a work life balance.
Lifestyle wise, places such as supermarkets have long been savvy to the potential of value adding, to make life more convenient. Now even child care centers have cottoned on to value adding. How would you like to have your child care center take care of your ironing, or drop your kids to school?
Implications For Employers
Employers used to be able to say "my way or the highway". Now it's often more about being flexible, and accommodating within reason, the needs of an employee or potential employee.

Employers need to make adjustments based along generational lines more so than that of age. Problems to note...
1. Employers may be faced with generational issues in the workplace. If this is the case, candidates of Gen X or Y might be receiving the wrong types of attention from managers.
2. Every employee is different. If communication issues already exist, how would you know to address your employees correctly ?
