How will you celebrate Boss's Day today?
Yes, October 16th has been designated as a day to celebra
te National Boss's Day?
It was officially proclaimed in 1962, by Illinois Governor Otto Kerner. The original idea came from Patricia Bays Haroski in 1958.
The word "boss" intimates that you have staff. But I think that "boss" is a term that is more about the style of leadership, rather than merely a heirarchical position.
Some bosses are facilitators, some are autocratic and some have few or no leadership skills at all. Even in a collaborative environment or flat management structure, there still has to be some leadership.
How Will You Celebrate Boss's Day?
How or if you celebrate Boss's Day will depend on the culture of your workplace and workforce. If your staff want to celebrate it, that's a good sign all round.
As Patricia Kitchen says in her article - Today Is Boss's Day - What's A Worker To Do? - "...everyone needs appreciation, even bosses."
But what happens if you are a sole operator?
As a sole operator or a husband and wife small business team, maybe Boss's Day could be about celebrating what you have achieved. You could even treat yourself to a day off. After all, you're the boss!
Enjoy Boss's Day, wherever you are!
