Devoted to small businesses and those who run them

If you're not in a position (or location) to make it to any of the writing conferences going on over the next week, you may feel more apt to sitting down and hitting the entries for writing contests instead.  There are several contests that are ending their submission periods over the next day to two weeks, so get your laptop or pen and pad handy and get those entries finished up!

First up is the Philip Roth Residence in Creative Writing with Bucknell University.  The winner of this residence receives a fall residency and a $4,000 stipend.  Your entry must be postmarked by Saturday, 24 February.  The contest is open to individuals over the age of 21 who are not currently enrolled in a university. 

Next deadline to beat is for the Sylvia K. Burack Scholarship Award, sponsored by The Writer.  For this contest, you must submit a 600- to 800-word personal essay (in English) on a topic you feel passionate about.  The contest is open to college students in the U.S. and Canada.  You must be over the age of 18 and able to prove full-time college enrollment.  The winner will receive $500 and a year's subscription to the magazine.
