Can you believe we're already past the middle of October? Before you get too busy making plans for the holidays, the writers in our bunch will want to check out these deadlines and apply or schedule travel as necessary. You never know -- with some of the upcoming conferences taking place next month, you might be able to schedule something that will get you near family or friends and still be deductible on your business books as well.
First of all, do you have a novel brewing somewhere inside? November is National Novel Writing Month. Want to join in the gobs of writers who will be place "quantity over quality" and jot out a 50,000 word novel in a single month? Get on over to www.NaNoWriMo.org and sign up for the fun. Thirty days can fly by pretty quickly, so make sure you get in there by the deadline of the 1st of November so you have all the time in the world (or at least, in the month) to work on the Great American Novel to be!
There are some interesting conferences coming up too. See if one of these will fit into your schedule:
- Tony Hillerman Writers Conference: Focus on Mystery -- November 2-5
- N.C. Writers Network Fall Conference: November 10-12
- Travel Classics West Writers Conference: November 16-19
Don't forget there are contests closing out at the end of this month and during November, too. Give these a shot, and let me know if your submissions to any of them are winners!
- Oct. 31: Benjamin Saltman Poetry Award
- Nov. 1: Kalliope Short Fiction Contest
- Nov. 1: Sue Saniel Elkind Annual Poetry Contest
- Nov. 15: East Coast Writing Contest
