I realize that most of us would love to be able to have an IT guy on staff, but the reality of being a small- or home-based business owner is that you are often the Chief Cook and Bottle-Washer. You're not only the marketing exec and the PR person, you're also the computer person.
I know that a lot of the home office supplies on the market are pretty idiot proof, but frankly, as a writer, I know that I absolutely have to have my computer up and running. Yet I know very little about creating a safe Internet experience, outside of a wing and a prayer. Needless to say I was pretty happy to find a new book at the library called The Symantec Guide to Home Internet Security which I assume will help me for both personal and business computer use. Since I'm not working on a huge network or dealing with a staff that will also be accessing my system, a "home-level" security plan may suffice.
My main concern was that this title is from the makers of Norton AntiVirus, which is no longer my choice for AV protection. On flipping through the book, though, it looks like the main focus is on Norton, but there is plenty of general information. If you're worried about the wing and a prayer system like I am, you may want to check it out and see what you can learn too!
