No, I don't mean you can burn 100 calories just from doing one crunch. (Wouldn't that be wonderful thought? Just think how much faster we could burn off those late-night, down-to-the-wire-deadline-submission snack fests!)
What I actually mean is falling victim to those colorful little snack bags that promise they hold only 100 calories worth of food. If you're anything like me, sitting in front of the computer working a full shift can mean a couple of bags' worth. They aren't always the most nutritious of goodies, even if they aren't huge portions, and it doesn't help any if you gobble down one while checking email, one while writing a press release, and one while IM'ing with a potential new employee. Where did that roll of flab come from? 100-calorie packs times, well, um, 12. *innocent look*
Obviously I'm guilty of some pretty mindless snacking while I'm surfing, or I wouldn't be bringing this up. But I'm happy to say that I found a neat list in the October/November issue of Eating Well that will *hopefully* make the problem a thing of the past.
You see, not only did they offer readers ten suggestions for 100-calorie snacks, they also give ten easy ideas for burning off 100 calories. So now, when you do get the workday munchies, you can come up with ways to mix 'n match both consuming and getting rid of the calories. Portion control is a major issue these days for Americans, and breaking it down this way is helpful, I think. After all, we've already discussed how many entrepreneurs find themselves in need of a good break to get rid of the sleepies, doldrums, and creative downfalls that come along with working too much. Switching to small, healthy snacks and getting some exercise in can only help us feel better and work better in the end, right?
