In honor of Writer Wednesday, I've decided to share with you the poems that woman writer Rosemary O'Brien submitted to me for Workerette.com's women writers publicity opportunity.
If you're a professional writer who'd like some exposure, or a small business owner with expertise to share, don't forget to email me for submission guidelines. It's very easy to gain some free publicity and offer your fellow small- and home-based business operators a glance at what you do in a day, your thoughts on building a business, or your expertise in a niche or exciting field! You can comment here on SmallBizMentor.com or email me at Melonie[at]SmallBizMentor.com.
This talented writer and poet can also be caught blogging or sharing her other talents over at her website. Be sure to tell her I sent you if you pop by for a visit! For now, sit back and enjoy several of Rosemary's lovely works.
With Age
Ó 1998 Rosemary O’Brien
Used by Permission.
It comes with age
this peace,
this calm,
this knowing
I will be able
to slay
any dragon
who follows me home.
I know this
because
I have slain
dragons
before.
Marking The Weight
Ó 1992 Rosemary O’Brien
Used by Permission.
...And all the while
I remembered that
helpless feeling ...
That black cloud
penetrating every minute
of every day and night.
The moment when I woke
and the weight crashed down
upon me
like a safe dropped out of a window
in some old movie.
That instant when they told us
they had done all they could.
And the weight lifted.
And the cloud dissipated.
That feeling that God had
other plans for him,
in another place
where I couldn't follow.
