- What do you enjoy most about operating your business? What tasks would you perform even if it had nothing to do with the successful operation of your company?
I enjoy seeing the final product of the site the most I think. I am proud of the way the site turned out and I hope that it will be successful. I think the follow up aspect would be the part of the business that I would do even if it did not play a role in the success of the business. Searching for the blogs is great and I do enjoy that part, but having people be grateful for being posted on my site is something that really makes me happy with what I’ve done. As the site’s traffic grows, I hope that I can keep up with the follow up and not miss anything in recognizing the efforts of the people whose blogs are posted on my site.
- What is the least enjoyable part of operating your business? Are there any tasks you’d gladly delegate to someone else, no matter what the price?
I’m not a huge fan of the marketing. In a perfect world, if you have a decent product, it should just be available to the public. In the real world, there is a lot of effort that has to go into promoting your site in order for people to have access to it. If there was one part that could be delegated away, that would be it. I know that there are services out there who do exactly that, but at the startup phase, funds are limited so for now, I am just self promoting.
- What’s the worst advice you’ve been given with regard to building or operating your business? How about the best advice?
I’m not sure that I’ve had any advice that has been particularly bad. Friends and family have been very supportive and offered me good advice. My friend, Greg Ionson, has been the most supportive of my efforts and his advice to me to get a host even though I wasn’t quite sure I was ready for that part was a key factor. By getting a host early on, it let me start to develop the site in earnest.
