Some of you may have noticed that SmallBizMentor is getting a little quieter on the weekends. While I feel like I should give you a sheepish look, I'm actually rather proud of myself. We all know that as a small- or home-based business owner or solopreneur it's very easy to get wrapped up in your business and not take enough time out for your family or your life. Personally, I got sick of hearing folks say "get a life!" and meaning it!
I'm still working on that concept of taking time off to get focused and re-energized. It seems like it's all too easy to get distracted and take breaks at the wrong time, and not take them at the right time. It seems like the gents over at TwoBitOperation are dealing with the same concept. At the very least, I'm trying to make sure that come what may, guilt trip for not working or not, I create at least one good reason to get out of the house and away from the computer and the workload for a while.
Good reason number one, for this past weekend? Mount Saint Helens. Yes, the volcano. It's only about two hours from my house, give or take, and the Little and I love it there. I've been there probably a dozen times since I moved to Washington in 1988. Since the eruption of 18 May 1980 was still so recent then, I've seen a lot of changes there, most especially over the past few years, because I've gone more frequently.
Ahhhh, break time. How do I justify it? Well, by reminding myself that no business person, no freelancer, can do the "all work and no play" thing too long before reaching a point where they are cranky, crotchety and generally absolutely no fun to be around and no use to anyone.
I also look at pictures like this to remind me that it's worth it. Share the joy. Then schedule a family field trip with your loved ones. Trust me...you'll all be the better for it!

great reminder! And it can be a mini-trip too. A few hours out of the house, doing something entirely different can work wonders! Now, I have a question. Between here, and Workerette, and other blogs, how in the world do you keep coming up with fresh, interesting and relevant content? Seriously...any tips?
