Another book on the library list (bless that online catalog!) this week was Samuel Fromartz's debut book, Organic, Inc.: Natural Foods and How They Grew. Fromartz is a business journalist whose name you probably already know from Business Week, Inc., and Fortune. Thanks to an interest in the growth of the organic food industry and a marked addiction to Whole Foods Market (no sarcasm here, I'm stuck on Trader Joe's, myself!), Fromartz decided to investigate further.
I'm glad he did. Business owners, you'll learn a lot from this book, whether you're interested in going green or not. Whether or not the history of the organic certification process (and various levels therein) pull you in, the concepts shared by several business people in their discussions with the author are good, solid concepts we can all learn from. What if you are interested in going green? Buy a copy, don't borrow it. You'll want to take notes and highlight and...well, you'll see!
