Meet & Greet: Web Designer Natalie Jost

Today I'd like to introduce you to Natalie Jost, a highly talented web designer I had the pleasure of working with on past marketing projects for a former employer.  I can personally vouch for Natalie's willingness to work with a client in a professional and creative manner.  I hope you'll enjoy getting to know her as much as I have.

If you'd like to learn more about Natalie's business and the services she offers (and the knowledge she has to share!), you can visit her at NatalieJost.com or email her at nataliejost{at}gmail.com.  Be sure to check out some of her amazing photos!  She's an incredibly talented lady.

* Please describe the business you operate or service(s) you provide to clients and customers.

I’m a freelance web designer and I occasionally provide graphic design services for print when the need arises. I also provide consulting on websites, writing, blogs and blogging, and even design consulting for beginning designers.

* What was the inspiration, or the catalyst for, the creation of your business endeavor?

I was working in a corporate job but designing my own blog and website on the side when a co-worker came to me and asked if I could design a website for a friend of hers. It was then that I realized I could actually make some money doing this. At the time it was just something I did on the side, in addition to maintaining my employer’s website. One day the time came for me to make a decision about my daughter and her daycare situation. I decided I would much rather take the time to be home with her if possible and web design was such a promising career choice for that goal.

* What steps did you follow to build your business? Are you still in the process of planning your endeavor?

In the beginning it was very slow, but I was also still learning and had a long way to go, so I focused mainly on fine-tuning my skills while I picked up a few clients here and there. Part of that involved blogging and reading blogs by other great web designers. I found that the more I learned and grew as a designer the more the work came to me. I am still in the process, but I think I will always be. There’s never a point where you stop learning and improving.
