If you're trying to figure out a way to start a small business "on a shoestring", you might want to check out the June 2006 issue of Parents magazine. Author Ellen Parlapiano pulled together interviews with five moms who have created successful home-based enterprises for themselves without a lot of cash.
The five mompreneurs include professional organizer Nicole Bickett, gift-basket designer Lisa Stenson, personal trainer Kristina Miller, virtual assistant Becki Noles, and errand runner Angel Wilder. The lowest start-up costs were $300 for licenses, bonding and signage, while the highest was $3,500 for inventory, marketing materials and Website design.
With annual incomes ranging from $22,000 to $175,000, these ladies have really given their businesses a great start and, in the latter case, worked up to a point where income is created by hiring independent contractors to build their business further. Certainly something to chew on!
