Today, the last Monday of May, is the day chosen for observing Memorial Day, a day set aside to remember those who have fallen in service to our country. Originally observed on 30 May, the holiday initially honored those who died fighting in the Civil War. After World War I, the holiday became one to remember all US service members who died fighting in any war. In 1971, Congress passed the National Holiday Act, changing the date of observance of Memorial Day from the 30th of May to the last Monday of May and creating a three-day weekend for Federal holidays. (You can learn a lot more about the holiday here.)
SmallBizMentor would like to take this opportunity to thank our soldiers and sailors who currently serve, and their veteran predecessors, for serving this great nation. I also ask that you take a moment to remember those who have fallen in service to this country. Not just today, but tomorrow (the original Memorial Day), as well.
Thanks to the reach of the blogosphere and the Internet, SmallBizMentor is visited daily by folks from around the globe. May you all be safe and sound, and may those of you with loved ones in uniform, no matter where you live, have similar recognition and thanks.

My grandpa served in (and survived) the Pacific in WWII as a skinny teenager. I'm forever grateful for his example of bravery.
