As I mentioned earlier today, there's a ton of information out there for those trying to decide if a franchise is the "right" pathway to business ownership. In some cases, it isn't; in others, a franchise can be a stepping stone to further entrepreneurial efforts or it can be the first in a layer of franchise success stories for a single owner.
I popped by Entrepreneur's "FranZone" just to see what their top franchises happened to be, since they mentioned the link in their May 2006 issue. Wow! I'm just blown away by the amount of other resources offered there. You can check out their picks for top home-based, global, low cost, and new franchises, as well as their Top 500 (and past years' lists too).
Come to find out they even offer a magazine for franchisees...FranchiseZone Magazine! You'll want to check that site out as well, because there are articles about when to run (ie when not to buy a franchise) as well as pieces about "hot" franchises and interviews with successful franchisees. I'm going to have to look for this one on a bookstore trip today, I think. Even though I'm personally not in the market to buy a franchise, this is an incredibly interesting area to research!
