Sound familiar? It sure did to me. CrazyBusy is a term that I've been applying with friends for a while (usually with a shake of the head implying how crazy I am for being so busy), and I recently discovered that it's the title of a new book by Dr. Edward M. Hallowell too. The rest of the subtitle is "Strategies for Coping in a World Gone ADD". Goodness, who doesn't need those?
Needless to say, this was on my list for yesterday's weekly library list. Thanks to the wonders of online library catalogs, I was able to request and receive a copy right away. (No small feat, since this book's pretty well hot off the presses.)
This one is a definite "must-read", folks.
I love how Dr. Hallowell brings up the point that, frustrating as this busy-ness can be, it can also be our opportunity. He offers exercises to get your brain flowing and your time sorted out more effectively (try the deal on pages 186-190; it isn't easy, y'all!). He's got tips for moving out of what he calls the "F-state" (frenzied and then some) and into the "C-state" (cool as a cucumber). The good doctor has a friendly, conversational tone, plus he's got some incredibly interesting words. Who wouldn't be hooked by "pizzled"? It's a great one, but you'll have to read the book to find out why. <grin>
And turn off the phone while you read it. Trust me...you'll enjoy the silence.
