Are you headed to Washington, D.C. this summer? Don't forget to book your room and register for the annual BookExpo America event, which will be held May 19 - 21, 2006! Sponsored by the Association of American Publishers and the American Booksellers Association, this is supposed to be one humdinger of a get-together. Over 2,000 publishers and exhibitors will gather at the D.C. Convention Center at the beginning of the summer.
While the main convention is for booksellers and retailers, publishers and industry professionals, rights and international visitors and librarians and educators, writers are welcomed on Wednesday, 17 May, for their own special gathering. Attendees of the BookExpo/Writer's Digest Books Writers Conference can take part in workshops, breakouts, book pitch sessions and schmooze with editors, agents and other authors. If you're looking for some inspiration for that next story or just want to get in some great sightseeing while you're there, the BEA has also set up tours of local sights for attendees at an additional cost.
Don't forget to keep all your receipts so you can turn them over to your tax preparer as potentially deductible business expenses at the end of the year. And if you get to go, don't rub my nose in it. I'll be totally jealous and cry!
