If you've been perusing the Know More Media network of business blogs, you've probably met my colleague Monica Flores. She's the highly talented author of the SistersinBiz blog here at KMM. But did you know that Monica is also a partner in a web design firm called 10K Web Design?
I didn't, until she kindly sent me her responses to the questionnaire I asked her to fill out. Now that I've had an opportunity to get to know Monica a bit better, I'm even more impressed by her writing and accomplishments. I think you will be too...so read on!
* Please describe the business you operate or service(s) you provide to clients and customers.
10K is a professional web design company specializing in
community-building websites. We've developed our ANCHOR community
software in response to our clients' (non-profit and for-profit) needs
for web-based tools that strengthen specific communities,
organizations, and membership associations. We also offer custom web
design and programming. 10K Web Design is a minority-owned, woman-owned
company based in West Oakland. www.10kwebdesign.com
* What was the inspiration, or the catalyst for, the creation of your business endeavor?
My partner and I have been involved with community, technology, education, and websites since 1999 as freelancers and employees for other companies. We had been doing our own projects off and on until one of our bigger clients wanted us to incorporate (they've since become quite successful).
We launched our business, 10K Group, in late 2004 and have been going strong ever since, doing sites for nonprofits, government, and businesses: our bread and butter is web design and development, although now we are moving into a variety of other projects.
*What steps did you follow to build your business? Are you still in the process of planning your endeavor?
Both my partner and I have multiple generations' worth of business owners and entrepreneurs in our family lines. We've followed our instincts and we've worked hard to build a series of products and services that respond to our clients' needs. We are still charting our course and building up our customer base.
