Meet & Greet: Jessica Harvey (Part 4)

* What do you enjoy the most about operating your business? What tasks would you perform even if it had nothing to do with the successful operation of your company?

It’s funny because I just realized that my answer is the same for both TheHomeCast.com and Once Upon a Family: reaching out and forming relationships with other women who are striving to excel in their area of life and the mission they are called to. I love hearing from other women and being reminded that I am not alone in my goals, but that so many others share the same ones.

* What is the least enjoyable part of operating your business? Are there any tasks you’d gladly delegate to anyone else, no matter what the price?

The least enjoyable would have to be keeping track of financial records, as well as putting myself out there for rejection.

* What’s the worst advice you’ve been given with regard to building or operating your business? How about the best advice?

Regarding the worst advice, I’m actually not really sure that I can pinpoint that. The best advice? To pray. To seek God’s will for my life, and to keep the focus on my family first. In my previous employment I found it very easy to become overwhelmed by working at home. I enjoyed my job, and the people I worked with, however I found it hard to shut off work, and the pressures of the never ending "to do list." I have learned to prioritize, to make a doable list each day of what needs to get done. I use Fridays as my catch up day to get the things done that I was unable to. I strive to remember that I work from home so that I can be home with my children and impact their lives. My number two goal in life (second to my relationship with God) is to be a exemplary wife and mother. I often fall short, however, so I need to constantly remember what really matters, and that isn’t the visitors at TheHomeCast or my sales volume with Once Upon a Family, but rather my family.

* What challenges have you overcome during your endeavor? Please describe something that impacted you financially or intellectually and how you got past it.

I think my biggest challenge has come from myself, from my propensity to get distracted, bored, or discouraged. Rome wasn’t built in a day, nor was any successful business. I continue to plug forward knowing that I will have good days and bad days and roll with the punches. I want to enjoy my endeavors and not be overwhelmed with them, and that is what I make the choice to do. I will fail or excel because of my choices.
