Every year tons of people I know resolve to lose weight, exercise, start eating right...and none of them make it past the first month or so. I've never bothered to even make such resolutions, until this year. Back in December a new friend mentioned my lack of endurance, and I took it to heart. I've always been slender, but have never really felt "fit", so I challenged myself to start working out and building my endurance.
That lasted about a month. Woo woo. Great job! The past few weeks, though, I've noticed my energy levels dipping, my waistband getting tighter, well...you can read the full list of "symptoms" over at Workerette.com, if you must. Suffice it to say I've realized that due to certain changes in my life, I've put on the "freelance five".
Okay, it's more than five. (Hush.) But I want to get rid of it...and most of all, I want to feel better again! Back in my glory days I was a gymnast and I can attest that muscle really does weigh more than fat, so it's not just about weight, it's about fat versus muscle, and internal things like cholesterol, heart rate, etc.
I suspect that I'm not the only home-based worker spinning around in their office chair and calling it calisthenics when they bend down to pick up the M&Ms they dropped on the floor. I also think I'm not the only one burning the midnight oil with the help of a couple of cans of Dr Pepper (or other empty calorie-laden, caffeine-filled beverage).
So how about it, entrepreneurs? Want to take the 2006 SELF Challenge with me? Or at least share some of your successes in getting fit despite sitting around on the ol' Internet all day? (And does anyone know how many calories we're burning if we type 2,000+ words a day? Unfortunately I don't think it's much...but my carpal tunnels sure feel it!)
Let me know if you've decided this is the year you're changing your lifestyle to a healthier one for good. And throw me some tips while you're at it! I need inspiration. I need role models. And most of all, I need chocolate.
Wait! Wait! I meant, um, a bottle of water. Really. I did!
