
Have you ever noticed that, as a home-based business owner, you can sometimes go for days or even weeks without actually speaking to another person? This may not be the case for those of you operating in offices or small shops, where you have visiting clients or customers, but those who are running Internet-based operations or working as freelance writers may find some of this familiar.
Even the most independent solopreneur needs a little mental stimulation outside of the home office and offline. Take a look at the following list. If any of these sound familiar, it may be time to start hitting the library or the grocery store a bit more frequently. Get your "people time" in standard doses and these will be less likely to occur:
- Telemarketers hang up on you after a 3-hour conversation about your business, your kids, and your cat.
- The UPS guy drops packages on your front stoop and runs back to the truck.
- The FedEx guy takes out a restraining order.
- The Terminix rep says there’s no way you have had five infestations in one month.
- The other moms at the bus stop swat at you with their Tupperware catalogs the moment you open your mouth.
- Parent-teacher conferences digress from Little Johnny’s finger painting skills to when the next field trip will be…so you can get out of the house by chaperoning. (Only you are willing to take on the responsibility of 30+ kindergarteners with glee.)
- Said kindergarteners cry upon sight of you at the next field trip; they know they are in for a long seminar about profit margins, staplers, and how many cups of coffee you down in a day.
