I think just about all of us have heard of small business loans and the like, but what about finding other ways to get an investor to fund your dream? Turns out there are fairs set up, just like a standard trade show, where you can meet and greet from a booth or at an after-hours cocktail party as you try to find the angel who will sprinkle money-dust on your business plan.
According to The Star-Ledger, nationwide numbers for venture investing were over $21 billion last year. The folks with the wealth are pooling it and selecting start-ups that they believe will double or triple their investment within a certain time frame. Some fairs require intricate application processes, while others allow anyone on a "first come, first served" basis. If you're looking for someone to give your start-up a little pump priming, one of these events may very well be worth attending! At the very least the networking might be worth it, even if you don't have "the sparkle" with a specific investor right off the bat.
