Today I discovered the Self Counsel Press Business Series at the library and I snatched up two of their titles that looked of interest.
The first, Marketing Your Service (4th edition), goes over everything from the definitions of marketing and service marketing and creating a mission statement to creating and implementing a marketing action plan. The book is chock full of worksheets that you can look over as you read, but it also comes with a CD-ROM that allows you to print out all of the forms and samples as well.
Authors Jean Withers and Carol Vipperman share experience in the fields of management and marketing and provide excellent insight into how (and why) certain businesses should vary from the standard retail marketing we see everywhere around us. Whether you are an accountant, appraiser, chiropractor, court reporter, hypnotherapist, naturopath, veterinarian or writer, you are in a service industry and must adjust your marketing plan accordingly. Those of us who work from home are even more susceptible to the "why bother?" mode of marketing, where we just hope and pray for the next big client or break through.
If that's your mode of marketing lately, you might want to pop by your library and look for this book too.

Melonie,
Thanks for sharing this information, I am coming out with the 2nd Edition of Starting a Collection Agency, (ISBN# 0970664559) and alot of my audience starts this business from home. This will be great for me to share with them in my book, my online community (http://www.credit-and-collections.com) and when I am consulting. Thank you for this great resource!
