While everyone else is stapling shamrocks to the wall for St. Patrick's Day or stocking up on marshmallow Peeps and egg dye for Easter, savvy business owners will also take the time to seek out information about the lesser known holidays and celebrations during March. (And, frankly, every other month of the year!)
Did you know that March is Women's History Month? This is the perfect time to do some in-depth research not only about marketing to women and networking with women in business, but also about the accomplishments of women throughout history. Depending on your field, there may be just a few successful women or there may be hundreds or even thousands. Tying your promotions this month to the successes of these women in your field, or cross-promoting with a leader in business on a historical recognition project could come in handy!
Simply put, marketing to women and recognizing their needs can be a powerful tool for building your business. I believe the business people of the Victorian era were quite well-informed about this concept. If you take the time to research the era, you will learn a great deal about suffragettes, yes, but you'll also be able to see how smart marketers chose to reach out to the "woman of the house" and inform her of how their products and services could benefit her. This lesson applies to all PR and marketing concepts, of course, not just dealing with women, but catering to whomever your clientele may be.
It always helps, however, to find a new reason to market a product or some coat-tails to grab onto...and this month, that promotional concept could very well be women's history. Take a few minutes to do a search on "women's history month" or pop over to Workerette.com; I've posted some neat resources there for you to review. (Not to mention a quote I came across and fell in love with!)
