The marketplace for business resources is huge and full of options and niche opportunities. As the number of women creating or in control positions in business has grown, so too has the number of organizations and resources made available to us. Whether you are just starting out on your business plan or are a veteran businessperson available to mentor a younger woman in your field, some of these networks and periodicals may offer something of interest.
While it's easy to let ourselves be intimidated by the women climbing the corporate ladder and shattering the glass ceiling, it's important to remember that the small- or home-based business woman is still a key player when it comes to creating and maintaining products and services that cater to, and satisfy, female consumers. Entire books are being written about marketing to women, and still more are being written about marketing like a woman or running your business like a woman. In the future I'll be reviewing these titles and sharing my thoughts about them with you.
For now, check out these resources to get you started. Please leave me a comment with links to your favorite resources (online and off!) so we can all share in the information!
- The Moms in Business Network (MIBN) calls itself "the only association representing the interests of over 60 million working mothers throughout the United States". Check their event calendar for luncheons and other events in your area.
- Working Mother Media offers both online resources and their print publication, Working Mother. I have enjoyed each issue I have received of this magazine! If you're interested in nominating a company for their "100 Best Companies" survey, do so before 28 Feb 2006.
- PINK Magazine is another publication I subscribe to and enjoy. Check out their online exclusives for even more interesting information.
- Christian Work at Home Moms offers resources for Christian women working from home...and they now offer a site for Christian dads as well.
All of these sites offer free e-newsletters and many other options and insights. Give them a shot and let me know what else you find!
