As a business owner I'm sure you know the importance of establishing a schedule. One of my own priorities as a work-at-home mom is to create pockets throughout the day and the week where I can not only spend time with my daughter but also run errands and accomplish tasks that will help with the growth of my business. One of the ways I've chosen to do this is by implementing a weekly library day.
Every Tuesday my daughter and I head to the local library to return our books, visit with other library patrons, and check out more goodies. From time to time I don't just walk out with a bag full of picture books; I sometimes find "treasures" of my own to bring home too. Today I took the time to wander the stacks in the *gasp* adult non-fiction aisles and I found a book with a CD-ROM entitled Legal Forms for Starting & Running a Small Business. You know that caught my eye!
Published by Nolo, this book claims to contain "all the forms & step-by-step instructions you need to successfully: start a business, borrow money, hire employees, create contracts, and buy or lease space". According to Nolo, they've been "putting the law into plain English" for 30 years (now longer, since this edition was printed in 2004).
I don't know about you, but I'm always interested in looking closer at something that offers me the opportunity to save on expenses by performing tasks myself...I particularly enjoy the fact that it's a learning opportunity where I can stretch my brain a bit and grow in a way I hadn't originally planned to.
Upon checking out the Nolo website I found that they've got more than just the small business issues covered. They also offer resources for consumers, including family law issues (elder care, child custody, divorce, wills) and goods for the entrepreneur (real estate, employment, intellectual property, etc). More and more interesting!
Take a minute to check out their offerings. I'll be rooting around on their Business & Human Resources page myself. I think I'll start with their "Ten Tips for New Small Businesses" article. Let me know what piques your interest and holler if there's something you think will be of use to me or your fellow SmallBizMentor visitors!
